Student-Meet: Food & Reflection: Looking back at the academic year that was

Since the beginning of time, the sharing of food has brought people together. It’s how we make friends, celebrate milestones, reflect and feel gratitude for life. In the spirit of this tradition, more than 30 students from across faculties gathered in the EDLAB Living Room to do just that. Amidst the aroma of steaming hot pizza, we embarked on a journey of camaraderie and reflection.

Learning from each other

Students discussed the triumphs and tribulations of the academic year gone by. One student reminisced about the long road that eventually led to her securing the internship of her dreams. Then, she reminded us of the importance of paying attention to detail as she recounted the consequences of overlooking the instructions on an exam paper. Interestingly, her story also revealed that life has a way of guiding us to exactly where we need to be.  “At the end of the day, it turned out I didn’t even need that exam for what I wanted to do.”

Curious Minds

Vibrant conversations continued throughout the evening with the help of “Curious Minds”, a game developed by the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. Students asked each other thought-provoking questions that were written on a card and connected their answers to their university experience. When asked, “What did you learn today?” a third-year student shared her conversation with a student who recently started doing her programme. She was fascinated by the improvements made to the curriculum in just a couple of years.

This event was an easy exchange of insights, tips and lessons that will propel us into the next academic year as we bid farewell to one another.

Join ESAB, the EDLAB Student Advisory Board

This final Student-Meet event for the academic year was an initiative by the EDLAB Student Advisory Board, or ESAB.

ESAB is a group of students from each UM faculty representing the student perspective on innovation and education at UM. They provide invaluable feedback on EDLAB projects while aspearheading initiativesto ensure that the student’s voice is heard.

As the academic year draws to a close, it is worth watching for the opportunity to become a part of ESAB in the upcoming year. ESAB will soon seek new members, ready to contribute their fresh perspectives and make a difference in shaping the future of education at Maastricht University.
