FHS (Public Policy and Human Development)
“After studying political communication in Vienna for five years and getting first experiences in the academic world, I realized that this is not what I want to do for the rest of my life. So, I took some time off, traveled around, and then decided to come to Maastricht University to obtain a master’s degree in Public Policy and Human Development. While this change was for the better, I felt uncertain about how to get to know this new field, the key actors and how I could develop the skills needed to find a job that I like after finishing my studies. This is when I found out about the extensive (and free!) employability support of University Maastricht, with lectures, workshops, and counseling. “Master-yourself” gives me the opportunity to work on my project management skills and you the chance to get a head start into the job market. See you soon!”
“My name is Martin. Born and raised in The Netherlands, I have come from Eindhoven to Maastricht to do my master’s in international business. As a current Master student, I know the pressure and uncertainty that comes with making choices about your career path. Personally, I feel that lacking practical skills and not having a clear picture of the possibilities are the biggest gaps that you face as a student making this transition. Master Yourself can help you to overcome both these challenges by providing workshops and masterclasses given by organisations that know what is currently important in their field. I am excited to help make this year of Master Yourself a success as one of the student ambassadors. See you soon at one of the workshops!”

“Master programs at UM are indeed demanding and the study takes most of our time. However, we also have to think about our future, about the direction we want to go, and the jobs we would like to have. I worked in business area for 15 years before I came to Maastricht University. And even after those years of experience I highly value the opportunity to get to know the companies in the region and to think about the work prospects in my new field – Work & Organizational Psychology. It is exactly what “Master Yourself” initiative offers to every UM Master student. It is a chance to get to know potential employers, build a network of contacts, and develop new skills. Master Yourself is more than free classes. It is your way to discover the real world without taking any risk and to make the right decision for your future. I look forward to seeing you in the sessions or having a good cup of coffee with you, if you have any questions.”
